IPL Photofacial
An IPL photofacial is a light-based treatment that can improve many skin concerns without a lot of irritation or downtime. This versatile, gentle medical spa treatment can improve skin tone, texture, and discoloration for a more polished and radiant glow. Our laser center offers IPL photofacial treatments to patients from Springfield, Longmeadow, Northampton, Westfield, MA, and surrounding areas.
How Does an IPL Photofacial Work?
The IPL device directs intense pulses of light at specific areas of the skin that need rejuvenation. The heat generated by the pulses of light creates superficial injuries in the skin to stimulate new skin cell growth for more even-textured, vibrant skin. An advantage of this treatment is that it impacts the treatment concern while leaving surrounding tissues unharmed.
The IPL device uses broad-spectrum light, which is made up of different wavelengths. At New England Dermatology & Laser Center in Massachusetts, your IPL provider can adjust the wavelength of light based on your specific skin concern and the area treated.
Benefits of an IPL Photofacial
This treatment can improve skin concerns on the face, chest, hands, forearms, back, and legs, including:
- Acne
- Visible veins and capillaries
- Sun damage
- Rosacea
- Minor laxity
- Stretch marks
- Hyperpigmentation
- Texture irregularities
- Red and brown spots
Your provider can let you know if you are a good candidate for an IPL photofacial treatment.
What To Expect During Your Treatment
Your provider will apply a numbing cream to the treated areas to minimize any discomfort. Most patients feel a snapping sensation in their skin but experience no other adverse effects. Your treatment should take around 30 minutes, and you can resume your regular routine in a day or two.
If you experience redness or swelling, refrain from applying makeup until your symptoms have subsided. Your provider may recommend 3 to 6 treatments spaced about a month apart for the best results.
How Long Do Results From an IPL Photofacial Last?
You can enjoy smoother, brighter skin for several years as long as you focus on skin health and sun protection. Unfortunately, you can’t stop the natural aging process, so you will need maintenance treatments every few years to keep your skin looking its best.
Am I a Good Candidate for an IPL Photofacial?
The best candidates for this med spa treatment are individuals with lighter skin tones, as it can create patches of hyperpigmentation in darker skin. A chemical peel with DiamondGlow® or a gentle laser skin treatment such as Fraxel® could benefit people with darker skin looking for effective nonsurgical facial rejuvenation. If you have eczema or psoriasis, IPL photofacial treatments may cause inflammation in your skin.
Patients looking to treat more pronounced skin laxity and other textural concerns may be interested in SmoothGlo™, a 2-part procedure that combines IPL with RF microneedling for more comprehensive results.
An IPL photofacial can restore radiance to your skin with minimal discomfort and downtime. Our aesthetic team will assess your skin needs and customize your treatment for the best results.
