SmoothGlo™
Combining the regenerative properties of RF microneedling with the clarifying benefits of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), SmoothGlo is a breakthrough treatment option for skin rejuvenation. We currently offer SmoothGlo at our Springfield, Massachusetts, office.
What Is SmoothGlo?
SmoothGlo is a sequential treatment that combines IPL with radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. This innovative approach produces superior, synergistic results that improve the skin’s overall texture, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues.
How Does SmoothGlo Work?
Part 1: IPL
The treatment begins with IPL, which reduces the appearance of brown lesions through “photothermolysis,” a process that uses light to generate heat and destroy unwanted pigmentation. IPL’s precise wavelength causes the brown and red pigment to coagulate, which prompts the body to eliminate them.
IPL improves the skin’s overall tone, and it has another effect that SmoothGlo capitalizes on. IPL increases the water content in the skin, which amplifies the clinical effects of the RF energy involved in the microneedling treatment that follows.
Part 2: RF Microneedling
The second part of the treatment exposes the elevated moisture in the skin to an electrical charge (a heat pulse up to 167° F). As the microneedles break the epidermis and send radiofrequency energy into the dermal layer, they stimulate the natural production of hyaluronic acid (HA), elastin, and collagen.
RF microneedling treats skin laxity and wrinkles but also enhances the texture, contour, and volume of the skin for a refreshed look.

What To Expect After Treatment
There is little to no downtime after your SmoothGlo procedure, but your skin will need time to heal. Your skin will feel warm for a few hours after treatment, with redness and mild swelling lasting for up to 4 days. The treatment areas will develop minor scabs that will naturally heal and shed within a week. It’s normal for your skin to have a dry, sandpaper-like texture during the initial healing period.
Post-treatment, it’s important to avoid sun exposure and discontinue retinol products for at least a week. We recommend you use gentle, non-abrasive cleansers and moisturize frequently..
Results and Maintenance
SmoothGlo delivers both immediate and cumulative results, with full results achieved over 3 to 4 treatment sessions spaced 4 weeks apart). To keep your skin firm and vibrant, we recommend maintenance sessions 1 to 2 times yearly. Protecting your skin from UVA/UVB rays and using medical-grade skincare products will support the longevity of your results.
